Kifi Free Wi-Fi
Privacy Policy
1. Who we are
Kifi Free Wi-Fi is a free public Wi-Fi hotspot shared from a private campervan travelling around New Zealand. It is operated by Qi LIANG ("we", "us"). Contact: web@rockbrain.co.nz.
This policy explains what information we collect when you use the hotspot or this website, why we collect it, and your rights under the New Zealand Privacy Act 2020.
2. The short version
- The Wi-Fi is free. Tips are completely optional and never change your speed, time limit or access.
- We do not record the websites you visit or the content of your communications.
- We keep limited technical records (such as your device's network address and connection times) to run the network and to deal with abuse.
- Nickname, country and guestbook messages are optional.
- Card details for tips are handled by Stripe. We never see them.
3. What we collect automatically

We combine these records into daily totals, such as the number of connections and total data used. The totals do not identify anyone, and we may keep them indefinitely.
4. What we do not collect
- The websites, apps or services you use, or any page addresses (URLs)
- The content of your messages, emails, calls, files or searches
- A history of your DNS lookups
- Your name, phone number, email address or ID. You never need these to use the Wi-Fi.
- Your card or wallet details
5. What you choose to give us

6. Why we collect it
We collect this information to:
- provide the Wi-Fi and apply fair-use limits
- understand how much the service is used
- keep the network secure and investigate misuse such as fraud, hacking, spam or illegal content
- meet our legal obligations.
We do not sell your information and we do not use it for advertising.
7. Who we share it with
- Stripe, if you choose to tip. Stripe processes the payment under its own privacy policy (stripe.com/privacy) and may store information outside New Zealand, including in the United States.
- Our server host. This website and its database run on a server in New Zealand.
- New Zealand Police or other authorities, when the law requires it or when it is necessary to prevent or investigate a serious offence. We give only the records relevant to that incident.
We share information with no one else.
8. Security
- MAC addresses in the security log are encrypted. The key to decrypt them is kept offline.
- The guest network is kept separate from our own devices, and guest devices cannot see each other.
- Our admin area requires two-factor login.
- Records are deleted automatically when their retention period ends. If an incident is under investigation, we may keep the related records until it is resolved.
9. Cookies
This site and the Wi-Fi login page use only the cookies needed for them to work, such as for form security. We use no advertising or tracking cookies and no third-party analytics.
10. Your rights
Under the Privacy Act 2020 you can ask to see, correct or delete information we hold about you. Email web@rockbrain.co.nz. We don't know who you are, so we may ask for details that help us find your records, such as the date and time you connected, your device's MAC address or your guestbook nickname. We will reply within 20 working days.
If you are not satisfied with our response, you can complain to the Office of the Privacy Commissioner (privacy.org.nz).
11. Changes
If we update this policy, we will change the version number and effective date at the top. The Wi-Fi login page always links to the current version.
