New Zealand's scenery is stunning, but many of its most beautiful spots, from national parks and remote beaches to mountain passes and quiet campsites, have little or no mobile signal.
We travel around the country in a campervan with Starlink satellite internet, and we share part of our connection as a free public Wi-Fi hotspot. Travellers, trampers and locals nearby can use it to check the weather and road conditions, find their way, or let family know they're safe.

How to connect
- When the campervan is nearby, join the Wi-Fi network Kifi Free WiFi.
- A welcome page opens. Accept the fair-use rules and tap Connect for free.
- You are online. If the welcome window closes by itself, that is normal.
You never need to give us your name, email or phone number.
Tips (optional)
The Wi-Fi is free for everyone. If it helped you, you can leave a tip to help cover our satellite data costs. Tipping is completely optional. It does not change your speed, time limit or access in any way, and nothing is sent to you in return.

Your privacy

Frequently asked questions
How can I get online in New Zealand where there is no mobile signal?
Many national parks, remote beaches, mountain passes and campsites in New Zealand have little or no mobile coverage. If the Kifi campervan is parked nearby, join the Wi-Fi network "Kifi Free WiFi" and tap Connect for free. The connection comes from Starlink satellite internet, so it works where phones have no signal.
Is Kifi Wi-Fi really free?
Yes. Anyone nearby can connect for free, with no sign-up and no payment. Each device gets up to 3 Mbps download and 1 Mbps upload, 3 hours and 1 GB per session, and can reconnect for free afterwards.
Where is the Kifi campervan now?
We are always on the move around New Zealand, so there is no fixed location. If you can see the Wi-Fi network "Kifi Free WiFi", we are within range.
Does leaving a tip give me faster or longer internet?
No. Tips are completely optional and do not change speed, time limits or access in any way. Everyone gets the same free service.
What information does Kifi Wi-Fi record?
We do not record the websites you visit or the content of your communications. To run the network and deal with misuse we keep limited technical records, such as the device network address, connection times and data used, for up to 90 days. Nickname, country and guestbook messages are optional.
Is it safe to use?
Guest devices are isolated from each other and from our own devices. As on any public Wi-Fi, use websites and apps that show a padlock (HTTPS), and consider a VPN for sensitive tasks such as banking.
